Chemotherapy drugs act by destroying cancer cells, which divide rapidly. Normal cells are also constantly dividing and growing, so they can be affected too and this can cause side effects. As normal cells can repair themselves quickly, side effects are usually temporary.
Chemotherapy affects people in different ways. Some people experience very few side effects. Others find that their lives are affected in various ways.
